On Friday 17 July, the PORTLEX research group joined researchers from across the EUniWell alliance at the workshop Connecting the Dots: Multilingualism across EUniWell, held at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Santiago de Compostela and organised by Professor Theodoros Marinis (University of Konstanz), EUniWell Champion for Multilingualism, and Dr Vítor Míguez Rego (University of Santiago de Compostela). The workshop was part of a wider series of meetings bringing together researchers from different EUniWell universities who approach multilingualism from a range of perspectives. Its aim is to build connections and lay the foundations for a strong research network, creating opportunities for future collaboration in research, teaching and knowledge exchange.

María José Domínguez Vázquez and Iván Arias Arias were invited to present the multilingual project ESMAS-ES+. In their talk, Beyond Translation: The Multilingual Approach as a Structuring Principle for Lexical Resources, they explored how multilingualism can shape the design and development of innovative lexical resources, rather than simply being added through translation.

It was a lively morning of presentations, discussion and shared ideas, highlighting a number of promising connections between the participating researchers and projects. Professor Marinis, who leads EUniWell’s multilingualism initiative, aims to build on these synergies and foster future collaborations across the alliance.
