Portlex at the 19th International AsiaLex Conference — Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Luke Omoyemi Akinremi, Iván Arias-Arias, and María José Domínguez Vázquez took part in the 19th International AsiaLex Conference, held this year in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where they presented the paper “Conceptualizing Lexicographic Quality: A Metalexicographic Comparison of LLM-Generated and Expert Criteria for Monolingual General Dictionaries.”

The talk compared the quality criteria generated by large language models against those established by expert metalexic

ographic tradition — a timely question, as artificial intelligence ran through many of the conference’s other presentations too, from automated entry detection to corpus-based definition generation.

It was especially inspiring to see the wide range of projects and dictionaries presented, and the many ways new technologies are being applied to lexicographic tasks across such a diverse set of languages.

This participation reflects Portlex’s ongoing international engagement at the intersection of lexicography, valency grammar, and artificial intelligence.
